Flutterby House is a sustainable, eco-friendly hostel, bar, and restaurant nestled in the natural beauty of Costa Ballena, Costa Rica.
This is your home away from home as you explore this beautiful corner of the world. We offer a chef’s kitchen, surfboard and bike rentals, a yoga deck, free lockers for all guests, and much more!
Relax in our shaded hammocks, cozy lounge areas, and enjoy secure parking. We observe quiet hours from 10:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. to ensure both our guests and local wildlife can rest peacefully.
Location
Conveniently located just behind Marino Ballena National Park, established in 1990, this stunning protected area boasts the largest coral reef on the Pacific coast of Central America. Its waters offer exceptional vantage points for observing the majestic humpback whales that migrate here from as far as Alaska and Hawaii, especially between December and April, en route to Cano Island near the Osa Peninsula.
The beach lies within the park’s protected boundaries, where hunting or disturbing marine life is strictly prohibited, ensuring a safe sanctuary for its diverse creatures. Snorkeling and scuba diving are popular activities, allowing visitors to explore vibrant underwater worlds. Nearby mangroves are home to fascinating wildlife, including green marine iguanas and the Olive Ridley and Hawksbill turtles.
