A five minute walk from Playa Uvita and the Marino Ballena National Park, the Flutterby House is located in the natural beauty of Costa Ballena, Costa Rica. Long term travelers and short term vacationers find a home away from home in this tranquil, laid back environment. The property is open to the fresh ocean air that drifts through the surrounding forests and mango trees. With quaint cabins and dorms built into the trees, this fantastical environment often reminds guests of the Swiss Family Robinson and Never-Never Land. Surfing, waterfall adventures and observing nature (whales, monkeys and tucans) are among the activities enjoyed by guests. We have a chefs kitchen, wifi, surfboard and bike rental, secure camping, and lockers- the rest is up to you.
In keeping with the harmony of our natural surroundings, we have made every effort to make sure that your stay is sustainable. We use fresh ocean air and the canopy of mango trees for ventliation and skylights instead of lightbulbs. Our biodigester recycles waste and does not pollute the groundwater. The waste from our washing machines is also recycled in to a greywater pond. We have chickens that provide pest control and take care of food scraps. (Their favorite food is coconut.)
And, we're local! Not only do we grow vegetables, herbs, and fruits on the property, but all raw materials used in construction were harvested within 30 miles.
